For past 10 years, we have met up almost each time i ended up in Bangalore, families know each other and we are part of "Circle of Trust" with each other.....and YET ! ..
- We haven't called each other anytime/any year to wish "Happy Friendship Day !"
- No SMS with "you are my friend in need... etc etc" kinda cheesy lines...
- No mails with Friendship day messages...
- And obviously Gifting is way out of league !
- No writing/messaging via Facebook.
- and not even adding a Friendship pic and tagging your friends...
Do we have to renew some Friendship vows each year ... tell people that you care for them, they are part of your good friends... etc etc... go a step forward and send out greeting cards, emails, gifts and probably catch up and have a lunch/dinner too !
Friendship once struck does not die until either of you Kill it ! ... no matter how long you have not been in touch with them and yet a single phone call or a meet up can renew the friendship. I met up my 3rd Grade classmate after a gap of more than 10 years with no contact in between either through phone, mail, orkut/facebook and yet the day we met up was quite magical, nostalgic as we shared our old school tales.
To be honest, i have never been gifted on a Friendship day ever ! ...it's not that i am a loner, i didn't have any friends as such that i went ahead a gifted them something on Friendship day but rather had friends who might have been struck by surprise if I did end up gifting them something. As far as i could figure out, the gifting part is usually handled best when gifted to opposite sex !.... we are better off with mails, sms, facebook !!!
Now, when you have so many friends... you either wish everyone or wish certain close friends or don't wish at all... whatsoever the end result be... You have been a good friend to them, they will not forget you nor will your forget them....one of my good friends forgot to Tag me one of their Friendship messages, but i guess that would be quite silly for me to feel offended in any way !!!
This is just one side of the coin... just flip over and you will find friends who will always call you on Friendship day, send SMS, send out status messages with Friendship quotes and even send you gifts... Is this is little over emotional, Karan Johar style ???

Life ain't easy for anyone... ask Vijay Mallaya, I guess even he will have his own list of worries... This sea-saw of life keeps taking your higher and also brings you down. In this short span of life on this planet -
- A call to your friend wishing them on Friendship day.
- Or a SMS stating some beautiful lines of Friendship.
- Or a Mail with good friendship greetings.
- Or a Facebook status messages wishing all your friends..
- Or a Gift !
and etc etc... all of these just brings about a smile to your face and your friend likewise. Everyone does have an hectic life but if you just pull out few minutes to talk to your friend or even sending an SMS... is like providing warmth , a big sweet hug ! ... There is no harm in renewing your vows with your friend.
Although, i did send out SMS to few of my friends. I got an unexpected call from someone whom i have met up recently and was so much happy just with the thought that they cared enough to call me to wish me !!! ... btw, i got Gifted too :) ...
On this Friendship day.. so many memories flew back in ... Sweet memories - wish you could wrap them in some capsules and store them in Glass jars... :-)
Going forward each Friendship day... will recharge my cell phone, start alphabetically A-Z and talk to everyone... and will gift some too....
In this crowded planet, you can often find yourself alone and you are always glad when you have someone to talk to, a jaddu ki jhappi, a shoulder to cry etc etc...and if you get a day to thank them for being there for you..why miss it !!!
